Berries
Yes, we said it, berries. Berries contain so few calories, that you can almost eat as much as you want. We all get that craving from time to time, and it is noting better than to dive into a bowl of fresh berries feeling your cravings passing by like a breeze, without the guilty feeling. Berries are sweet, juicy, and full of flavor.
Berries and berries
Some berries are small with thin peel, such as blueberries (those actually contain a lot of antioxidants by the way), others are larger and have a shell similar to leather, like Orange. Yep, oranges are actually considered a berry!
Let cravings become your friend!
Ok, back to eating berries, nothing can compare when it comes to a replacement for sweetness. Fresh berries are one of the best things you can get in the summer, come on! Who are we kidding here! These are one of the best things you can eat all year round. Our favorite ones are blueberry and strawberry.
Norwegians and their strawberries!
Of course, many of the berries are best in summer, like Strawberries. Well not to brag, but Norwegian fresh Strawberries are some of the best you can get. Norwegians are actually extremely proud of these and since the season is so short its something we all crave for! Usually, when the season starts (mid-June) the prices of strawberries in Norway can reach as high as 8 euros pr 500 grams!
Whenever we are looking for something sweet and good, we always eat berries. They contain few calories, so you can fill your bowl up.
Toppings
So what healthy stuff can you add without a bad conscience? Well, here are a few tips for you, berries can be sweet, but if you’re like us it can sometimes be just a little bit sweeter 😉 So add some natural sweetener on top, like stevia or whatever floats your boat.
You can also use skinny kesam, skyr, low-fat cottage cheese, or vanilla sauce without added sugar. If you are not a purist(we are sometimes too) topping can lift this craving killer in terms of both flavor and texture. There are so many flavors in skinny kesam and skyr, so start tasting and pick your favorite. Or why not blend up the natural flavor with some other types to make your own flavor! Now if you really want to up your game you can heat them a bit to create a temperature contrast in the dish. This will also make the flavors different and will add even more contrast to your dish.
Cravings you said? Let’s get rid of it!
Pick your favorites berries, fill your bowls, add some sweetener, and your favorite skinny Kesam, skyr, low-fat cottage cheese or skinny Vanilla sauce. We all have a sweet tooth, and this is a healthy choice.
